The Story

This drawing brings together two faces of Japan: the dense, ever-expanding cityscape of Tokyo and the timeless presence of Mount Fuji beyond it. In the foreground, layers upon layers of apartments, high-rises, and skyscrapers capture the relentless rhythm of modern life. Landmarks such as the Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building stand tall among the city blocks.

Yet above it all, Fuji’s peak rises quietly, unchanged for centuries. The mountain has long been revered in Japanese culture as a sacred place and a source of artistic inspiration.

For Josua, this was one of the most demanding works he has undertaken, a drawing where every window, every street, and every shadow builds into a portrait of contrast: chaos and calm, modernity and tradition, city and nature.
